We're Celebrating 21 Years Of DTX!

9th December 2025

Your communications are the backbone of your business. Without being able to speak to clients, contacts, suppliers and your team, many businesses would simply fail to function. For this reason, when you choose a provider to manage your business’s telephony, you want to know that you’re in the hands of someone you can trust. Trust is built by experience, accreditations, testimonials, and relationships. As DTX reach their 21st year in business, we are looking back and celebrating what DTX have managed to get right for many years.

Becoming Alcatel-Lucent’s largest UK reseller

DTX was incorporated in May 2000 – not quite six months after the Millennium bug, as the internet was coming into its own, before social media was popular and at the start of the rise in our dependence on technology. DTX’s founder was Sir David Gerald Richards, chairman of the FA Premier League, and former chairman of Sheffield Wednesday F.C. At this time, Sir David ‘fell’ into the telecoms industry as he identified communications as a business need. The main business focus and priorities in the years that followed were to advise, manage and support businesses with traditional, on site telephone systems. In 2005, the team of directors at DTX won a prestigious award as one of the UK’s largest resellers of the Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX range of business telephone systems.

The rising demand for data in the UK

In the years that followed, the need for business mobiles and hosted telephony grew. In 2010 our mobiles and VoIP solutions were launched

Mobile: DTX adapted and formed relationships with Orange, Vodafone and O2 to support business customers with competitive contracts for their fleet of workers. At this time, minutes, texts and data all came at a premium in the UK, and abroad. Sourcing the right contract for a customer was more about tailoring a plan to their needs and ensuring very little overspend. In the last 10 years, businesses have become more reliant on smartphones, access to emails when out of the office and ensuring smooth communications between the office and the wider team. Whether you have a ‘pool’ of voice, texts and data, or an unlimited allowance – finding the right package for your business is fundamental.

VOIP: DTX joined forces with Gamma and BT Openreach to support clients with the new services available on the market. Forming the right relationships with market leading suppliers ensures reliability and business continuity. With 99.99% uptime, VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) service is incredibly reliable and includes lots of smart features to help you improve your call handling. With a user-friendly web portal, our hosted IP service lets you easily manage your telephone systems to maximise productivity. By 2015, businesses across the UK demanded more from their internet providers and better speeds when browsing and downloading data. With the rise of mobile devices, the demand for better Wi-Fi solutions grew. As ‘problem solvers’ with a strong technical background, DTX were able to find the best solution for businesses across a host of solutions including leased lines, Ethernet and even satellite broadband

Management buyout for growth

In 2019, DTX Network Services went through some more big changes. Team members Darren Moran and Samantha Hayes took on a more active role in a management buyout of the business from Trevor Smith and the team. As co-Directors, Samantha and Darren have built a business to offer both technical support and business focussed solutions to the existing customer base, as well as proactively look to grow this base.

Darren joined DTX in 2007 as a Technical Operations Manager. Darren’s experience prior to joining the team was in telecoms industry for 17 years. Heading up the Support team, Darren now oversees installs, hardware provisions, network design and implementation. Darren and the technical support team ensure every customer is supported.

Samantha has also served almost 27 years in the telecommunications sector and has been with DTX since 2014. Within Samantha’s role, she is responsible for meeting clients to review their telephony needs, manage the provisioning and onsite customer training teams. Samantha is also heavily involved in the business operations as well as Marketing.

Recent successes

Awarded gold partner status with Gamma Telecom, DTX now serve more customers with Hosted Telephone systems than they ever did with traditional PBX systems. Advances in technology have meant that businesses have value and flexibility at their fingertips.

With mobile partners such as Plan.com, flexibility doesn’t end with your desk telephones. Mobile solutions are now more adaptable then ever and allow businesses to tailor a contract to their exact needs. Finding the right solution for a business, whilst saving on their overheads is where DTX add value to their customers.

Celebrating 21 years!

While the team at DTX have plans in mind for growth, the key focus is ensuring that the existing customer base is managed on the right solution. DTX continually listen to industry news, feedback of their customers and ensure that they’re on the cusp of innovation. With high-speed internet connections becoming more and more affordable and the introduction of more cloud based solutions Samantha and Darren feel this is a must foundation for any successful business network. As technology moves so fast, the rise of IoT and changes in demand - who knows what’s next!
